X-Men: First Class Character Posters Spotlight Xavier, Lensherr

Twentieth Century Fox has released two international character posters for X-Men: First Class, director Matthew Vaughn’s prequel to the studio’s big-screen mutant franchise.

The banners showcase the movie’s main characters, James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender’s Erik Lensherr, playing up the juxtaposition of past and present that we saw in the trailer. Here’s the official synopsis for the film, which opens on June 3:

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-MEN saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-MEN.

X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr, January Jones as Emma Frost, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Henry McCoy/Beast, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy/Banshee, Lucas Till as Alex Summers, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, Edi Gathegi as Darwin, Oliver Platt as the Man in Black, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggart and Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore.

Before he was Patrick Stewart he was James McAvoy

I remember when the first movie came out it was marketed more as a sci-fi adventure than a superhero movie because there were concerns that the general public didn’t really know who these characters were.
Now the marketing strategy is banking on people not just knowing who Magneto and Professor X are, but actually caring enough to want to know their history. What a difference a decade makes!

I’m kinda excited about this, but damn, Erik’s head in the poster looks a wee bit big and out of place.

Before he was Gambit, he was Remy.

Before he was Charles, he was Mr. Tumnus.

“the greatest threat the world has ever known”

I wonder if they are referring to Azazel (Nightcrawler’s father) who supposedly is in this movie. In the comics he was virtually a biblical demon, I wouldn’t be surprised if they simply stated he is one in this film. And no, I don’t like his inclusion.

  • X-baby?

Gambit was in Wolverine and looked in his mid 20’s. and that movie was set in the 90’s
First Class takes place in the 60’s
So he wouldn’t even been born yet.
