New Stills From Green Lantern

Warner Bros. has released two new stills of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan — with ring and out-of-focus power battery — and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris from Green Lantern. Nothing too exciting, sure, but maybe these are the first trickles in a new wave of publicity for the summer tentpole.

Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern also stars Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Temuera Morrison, Jay O. Sanders, Taika Waititi and Jon Tenney. It opens in 3D and 2D on June 17.

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Pretty cool, I guess. Can’t wait for the new trailer.

This is fine and all, but I’d like to see some more GL pics.

I’ll probably give this a chance, but…I’m I the only one who thinks that Matthew Fox would have made a great Hal Jordan?

Not rightly certain Matthew Fox’s face is punchable enough to be Hal Jordan…

  • Sandor

Mathew Fox is a pretty good choice. I think a younger Nathan Fillion would’ve been the perfect Hal Jordan, thuogh.

Space-cop who fights insanely powerful villains…

Crazy test pilot with issues relating to his own father’s death…

    See, those things are interesting.

Then I see the trailer. And it just looks, and feels, slightly ludicrous. Like it is lacking weight and meaning. There isn’t really the reverence there that is such a big part of the comics. There isn’t really the creativity. I mean, the only thing we saw the ring do was punch some guys… Um… Punching people in the face, ring or no, isn’t really anything amazing. It’s in almost 90% of all films.

So, now, we get to see Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris in a bar… Really? This is supposed to generate excitement? ‘Thrill, as Hal Jordan sips spirits! Tremble in terror as Carol Ferris braves the women’s rest-room!’ Oh, and in the other shot he has a ring! Really? Anyone familiar with the character kind-of assumed that fashion accessory would probably be turning up…

So, for me, the excitement that was built up by the fact that the concept art for Oa locked amazing has pretty much sunk with the trailer and the stills from the movie.
