Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
Neill Blomkamp had a dynamite debut with District 9, what would have been the best science fiction movie of 2009 if it hadn’t gone up against Duncan Jones’ Moon. Second-best is no small thing, though, nor is the best picture Oscar nomination that Blomkamp’s movie nabbed.
As a result of all of this, excitement is high for the director’s sophomore effort Elysium. Almost nothing about the film is known, other than that it will feature a futuristic setting and, like District, will deal with issues relating to social classes. We can add one more known fact to the list today: a release date.
Elysium is hitting theaters on March 8, 2013 … which is a freaking long time from now. It would be nice to see Blomkamp squeeze something else in before that one. The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which also confirms that Brazilian actor Wagner Moura has joined the cast as the villain. He’ll be appearing alongside previously confirmed stars Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley and Jodie Foster.
