Why The Russos Are The Best Thing to Happen to the MCU Since Joss Whedon
Sony Pictures has released a (perhaps suitably) bizarre full-length trailer for the CGI/live-action adaptation of The Smurfs that plunks Peyo’s beloved comics creations and plunks them down in the middle of New York City.
I’m not sure what more I can say about the trailer, or the concept, other than that Hank Azaria’s Gargamel is absolutely terrifying, although I’m not entirely sure that’s intentional. See for yourselves below.
Directed by Raja Gosnell, The Smurfs boasts an interesting cast that includes Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Fred Armisen as Brainy Smurf, Katy Perry as Smurfette, Anton Yelchin as Clumsy Smurf, John Oliver as Vanity Smurf, Paul Reubens as Jokey Smurf, Alan Cumming as Gutsy Smurf, George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf and Wolfgang Puck as Chef Smurf. (I’m not sure who the Smurf in the kilt and sideburns is, though.) In addition to the voice actors, the film features Jayma Mays, Neil Patrick Harris, Sofía Vergara and Tim Gunn.
The Smurfs opens on Aug. 3.
