Marvel Debuts New Image From Captain America: The First Avenger

Marvel has debuted a new official image from Captain America: The First Avenger in a most unexpected place — its June comic-book solicitations.

The photo, of a costumed Chris Evans atop a pile of debris, accompanies the listing for the final two issues of Captain America: First Vengeance, the official comics prequel to the much-anticipated film. Here’s the description: “As Captain America continues to get closer to uncovering the secret of the Hydra base, his past and the past of his friends continues to unfold. How did Doctor Erskine come to be fighting for the Allies? What’s the story behind the Howling Commandoes? And how is the Stark family involved in the creation of the First Avenger? Find out all this and more, written by Fred Van Lente (Amazing Spider-Man, Incredible Hercules) and art by LUKE ROSS (Captain America and the Dark Tower)!”

As we noted earlier this morning, Entertainment Tonight will air new footage from Captain America later today, signaling the premiere of a full-length trailer within the next few days (if not this evening).

The Joe Johnston-directed film, which opens on July 22, stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci, Richard Armitage, Natalie Dormer, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough, Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson.

Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).

That looks like a great WWII-era Captain America.

Hopefully, the tone, characters and story are able to be as spot on as the visuals.

Does anyone else have their Spinoff pages redirect to “BuddyTV” after a second or two?

He stole Captain Britain’s helmet and repainted it didn’t he?

Someone else had the same problem, but once he cleared his computer cache it took care of it. Would you mind giving that a try? If that doesn’t work, please let us know so we can try to track down the culprit. Thanks!

    Wow! That photo looks great!

Chris Evans looks so damn built in the “Entertainment Tonight” footage that it’s a shame they didn’t make the costume more form-fitting to show off his bod.

I’m a red and white blooded Canadian, but I can hardly frickin’ wait for this movie. (Is that wrong?) I love everything about his wartime fighting. Bring on The Howlin’ Commandos!!

Christ does that ever look stupid.

The boots & gloves look good, and the helmet looks about right for the time, even though there were no blue helmets, but the padding and the cuts aren’t authentic looking. And I’m old school; Cap didn’t wear a helmet in WWII–in the 1940’s comics. Don’t like it being retconned in because “it makes more sense.” Things start to fall apart when you try to make super heroes make too much real-world sense.

i think they’d do so in The Avengers, where Cap is thawed out of his frozen state in the modern day and downey’s Tony would probably decide to “update” Cap’s look for today’s crime fighting world.
    man, i can’t wait for 2012 already.
