Total Recall Remake Begins Casting For Two Female Leads

Whether or not you agree with it, the Len Wiseman-directed remake/reboot/proper adaptation/whatever you want to call it of Total Recall is moving forward. Colin Farrell is already set to star, and Wiseman is working with Sony to fill out the rest of the cast.

Right now the goal is to fill the movie’s lead female roles, and Deadline reports that the process is already well under way. While the new movie is said to hew closer to Philip K. Dick’s original short story, one of the two roles being filled is a fabrication carried over from Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 adaptation that wasn’t in the original story.

Deadline first reported that Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger were on to read for the role of Lori, played by Sharon Stone in the original, but later updated the post to reveal that Kruger opted out of the reading. The other female lead, Melina, was  introduced in the Verhoeven movie, played by Rachel Ticotin. Eva Mendes and Paula Patton are reading for Melina. Jessica Biel and Eva Green both are being considered as well, and Mendes is also apparently up for the role of Lori.

What’s interesting about all of this news  is the fact that, until now, all we’ve heard of Kurt Wimmer’s script is that it follows the original story much more closely than Verhoeven’s effort did. The action in Dick’s writings never actually moves to Mars, which keeps all of Douglas Quaid’s (or Quail, as it was written) adventures grounded on Earth. Melina is a character introduced on Mars as part of the local resistance in Verhoeven’s movie … so it seems there will be more parallels with the 1990 original than we were previously led to believe.

Hey I have a great idea for this movie. Lets not make it, no need to remake a classic. Yes, I am using that term loosely but that’s OK.

  • Squashua

They already remade Total Recall last year.

    It was called “Inception”.

  • Adam Rosenberg

Nah, you are justified in calling Total Recall a classic. It’s not Gone With the Wind, but that’s like comparing apples and oranges. Or, better, Gone With the Wind with Birth of a Nation. Both “classics,” but in VERY different ways. =)

  • Hollywood is retarded

i cant beleive we are now remaking movies from 1990.

Its bad enough they are remaking everything from the 1980s but 1990???

Does anything in Total recall look dated AT ALL????????????????????
Is the concept strong enough to even warrant a remake?

Has ANYONE on ANY message board EVER in the last 20 yrs asked for a sequel or a remake to TOTAL RECALL ??????????????

Sheesh at least wait another 10 or 20 yrs Hollywood.

At least have Roland Kickinger in it, so it can actually be a “remake”, since Arnold Schwarzenegger is too old to play his old role…

  • James

which was just in turn, a remake of DreamQuest

  • Adrian Johnson

    Exactly, Hollywood.

There is nothing dated about Total Recall. Any remake is absolutely unnecessary.

Bullsh*t!!! Total Recall is not a classic in any sense of the word. It’s typical Arnold schlock, with the same bad acting and dialogue in almost all of his films. Was it fun? Yes! Was it a classic? No way in hell. Total Recall is not an untouchable in Hollywood. Star Wars trilogy, The Godfather, Raging Bull, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and hundreds of others are among the untouchables, so to speak. But Total Recall does not belong in the same breath with those films.

I don’t get you whiny twats. Why do you care that something is being remade, especially something like this? You act as though someone is holding a gun to your damn head and forcing you to watch it. If you have no interest, then ignore it.

LOL! Who are you kidding that BS? Nobody. Total Recall is incredibly dated, not only with it’s look, but also with it’s incredibly dated effects and makeup work.

    Nice, that’s helpful for me
