Drew Pearce To Pen Iron Man 3

Just four weeks ago it looked as if Shane Black would direct and write Iron Man 3, but now Deadline reports that Marvel hired Drew Pearce to pen the screenplay.

Pearce, who created the British superhero-comedy series No Heroics, also wrote Marvel’s planned adaptation of Runaways, the comic created in 2003 by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona. That project had been on the fast track last year, with Peter Sollett (Nick And Nora’s Infinite Playlist) set to direct, until the studio pulled the brakes in December.

Marvel selected Black to take over the Iron Man franchise in February, just two months after Jon Favreau walked away from the job. The sequel will reunite Black with Robert Downey Jr., who starred in his 2005 directorial debut Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

According to Deadline, the plan is for Pearce to start from scratch, working closely with Black on the screenplay. Iron Man 3 will be released on May 3, 2013.

in other words marvel is trying to end the iron man trilogy right by making sure iron man 3 is done as well or better then 2. wonder if the Mandarin will still be looked at as the villian

Nah, they’re going for more “real-world villains”

I hope it’s not a ‘trilogy’. I’m tired of those, these films can keep going.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was hilarious. Really underrated flick.

Agree. George Lucas makes a trilogy, and every director/studio/producer thinks they have to do the same. How about you just make movies and let the series take you where it will?

I’m disappointed Shane Black is only directing and not writing. He wrote Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! He was once the highest paid screen writer!

I guess they don’t want to pay Shane Black’s writing fee. He’s an expensive writer, but cheap director.
