<i>Bill & Ted 3</i> Script Nearly Finished, Keanu Reeves Contends

A script for the fabled third Bill & Ted is nearing completion. So says “Ted” Theodore Logan himself, Keanu Reeves, who first raised the possibility of a sequel more than a year ago.

“I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft,” he told MTV News. “No pressure, guys!”

The writers, last we checked, are Christopher Matheson and Ed Solomon, who penned 1989′s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and 1991′s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, about two dense metalhead slackers (played by Reeves and Alex Winter), who travel through time and, in the sequel, challenge the Grim Reaper.

As unlikely as it may seem now, the sci-fi comedies spawned short-lived two television series — animated and live-action — comic books, video games and even a musical, and helped to launch Reeves into stardom.

Reeves revealed that the third film, which will reunite him with Winter, will have a direct connection to Bogus Journey, in which the duo’s band Wyld Stallyns were to have made world-changing music.

“When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened,” he said. “So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”

This is gonna be bad. Mostly because the actors are twenty years older. They have two options, leave Bill and Ted the same way for those twenty years or develop them and introduce us to these two guys who barely resemble the ones we remember.

Does this series need another sequel? They originals were fun films, no doubt, but they’re also about 20 years past their cultural relevance.

“San Dimas High School Football Rules!”

At least it did, over twenty years ago. The nostalgic part of me is excited at the idea, however that part of me also has a DVD player and doesn’t need to see another fond childhood memory get violated the way that GI Joe, The Transformers, Indiana Jones and Star Wars have.
