New Green Lantern Images Show Ryan Reynolds In Full CG Suit

Warner Bros. has released three new high-resolution images of Ryan Reynolds in his fully computer-generated Green Lantern suit. Although the poses may be familiar from earlier promotional materials, these full-body shots are, I believe, the first time we’ve seen all of a costumed Hal Jordan, from his modified domino mask right down to his green-clad toes. Yes, you can see individual toes in the movie uniform.

Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Temuera Morrison, Jay O. Sanders, Taika Waititi and Jon Tenney. It opens in 3D and 2D on June 17.

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Toes, I am ok with … just no nipples and no sausage

  • BoyBlunder

    looks good……….

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QKN5MHOI6VUFOYCTV5REK7M7A4 Jacob

    The mask still looks weird….

  • Jakekny

    Is that Will Ferrell?

  • Billy

Still not a fan of the costume. The mask and eyes really put me off! And now the toes too…

  • http://www.planetjohnny.net Johnny

Can’t help but feeling this is going to be a colossal flop and a bad movie though I hope that is not the case.

  • Firestrm01

The whole Toes thing has to go. I’m a huge fan, and they ruin this, I’m gonna snap….Toes??? c ‘mon.

  • Vijinand

Gotta see it in motion. It looked off in the first trailer.

  • Rocketeerz

Jeez. I think the costume looks terrible. It was bad before, but now that I can see the foot… oh wow it’s bad. I’m rarely negative about these things but holy cow that looks ridiculous.

  • http://blog.jasondunbar.com Jason

    Toes?! Seriously? Ugh.

I kinda don’t like the lack of delineation between the black and the green of the suit. And why does it look black here when the action figures are painted green and dark green?

  • http://twitter.com/mordalo Mordalo

    Hmm…toes…not sure…

  • lead sharp

Why is all the stuff I’m seeing so dark?

  • Smarkey999

The GL “suit” constructs seem to be based on the wearer’s anatomy; For Hal Jordan, we see human muscle structures and sinew. Perhaps the different suit textures seen on other GL’s in the trailer are based on their own unique alien physiology, like a weird externalized “X-ray.”

Anyway, that’s why we have toes.

  • darrellsan

    Green Lantern toes=Batman nipples

  • Anonymous

Honestly I was extremely hesitant about this movie from the beginning but the more I see of it the better I feel about it being at least decent.

  • juss

I’m with the anti-toes partisans. What I want to know is–who thought that was a good idea in the first place? Actually, showing toes fits with the look of the rest of the costume, which looks like the human body with the skin peeled away–and who thinks *that’s* a good look, either? I dislike the mask, too, but that *way* takes a back seat to the “Visible Man” look of the “suit.”

  • 0bsessions

I’m not a huge GL fan, so maybe this is why I’m able to move past it, but I’m saving judgment until I see it. That last teaser went a long way to making this movie look not terrible. The costume, whatever, the Spider-Man costume looked utterly terribad in stills, but once the movie actually hit, it looked great in motion. I like the idea of the costume being CG considering the fact it’s generated by the ring. I’ll give it a chance.

  • Invasionforce

I think this costume looks very cool. Why does it have to look exactly like the costume in the comic? Even in the comics, most heroes get their look revamped from time to time.

  • T.

No one cares WHY they’re there, they’re still butt-ugly. And even if the other GL’s don’t have them, the one GL that’s most important to get right is Hal Jordan.

  • Summer

I’m not sure which is worse. This or the new Wonder Woman costume.

  • Kelly

What are the fannies whining about now? Toes?
Did you see toes in the Wonder Con footage?

  • http://rockiesreporter.wordpress.com/ Redhawk

wow that’s crapastic! The only thing they got right was the chest logo.

I have never been a cgi hater, but this looks pretty bad imho.

is this movie live action or animated? you can’t even tell with these pics.

    not a fan

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QKN5MHOI6VUFOYCTV5REK7M7A4 Jacob

You can tell it’s live action, don’t be ridiculous.

  • Ganthet59

    Looks great to me.

To all the people complaining about the toes: Seriously? How much of his feet are you expecting to see? Complaining about this is up there with complaining about the size of Reynolds’ forehead, IMO. (Yes, I have seen that.)

  • Nilla

Given the whole super organic look of the costume, it would look weird without toes. And hate on the organic look all you like, but really. Costumes that work in comics rarely look good on screen. But haters are gonna hate. Happens with every superhero movie. All the talk about how bad it looks and how terrible it’s gonna be. That Batman Begins costume… terrible… movie’s gonna flop… wait. That didn’t happen.

  • Vdmilo00

Ryan Reynolds? Uber-CGI f/x? Toes? This movie is going to blow.

  • Scribemage

Being a fan of Green Lantern I hope that this movie is good and at least worth the price of admission. However from all the stills and trailers I’ve seen I think it’s going to disappoint. Not necessarily in terms of box office sales or story but in visuals. The production team is relying on way too much cgi to define the look of the aliens and Oa that the look of the entire film (at least what can be seen in trailers and stills) comes accross as a tad cheesy looking. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for using cgi to help create the aliens but it should not have been done soley in a computer adding voice later as appears to be the case. I think that they should have done the more well known aliens such as Kilowog, Abin Sur, Tomar Ree, Boodika, Salak like they did Golem on the Lord of the Rings films. I also think that they could’ve made beter casting choices than Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. I think Bradley Cooper (who was one of the top choices to play Hal Jordan) and Rachael McAdams would have been better choices. Either way I’ll try to go into the movie with an open mind but the more I’m seeing of it makes that harder and harder to do.

  • RoboCop’s Spare Left Foot

Though I would have preferred a uniform made of actual materials, I’m good with this interpretation. As some have pointed out, the GL costumes in the movie are more of a second skin based on the physiology of the ring wielder. The WonderCon footage has me hopeful that the really important aspects like story, tone and character will not disappoint. Really looking forward to this one.

  • that guy

    Hater gonna hate. Just that.

  • Geistbusters

    Toes… Toes. TOOOOEEEESSSS!!!!

  • Ollybygollly

    Ribbed for her pleasure.

  • robtoka

It looks fantastic. I’m sick of the complaints. Nobody likes anything. A spandex costume would have looked stupid and boring. Get over your expectations and admit that what has been delivered is beyond your imaginative capacity.

  • Notoes

They have to give him shoes. It looks like Green Huck Finn.

  • Summer

“Get over your expectations and admit that what has been delivered is beyond your imaginative capacity.”

You might be sick of complaints? But that doesn’t give you the right to be rude. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. Let them express them freely. If you disagree, the least you can do is be polite about it. It’s really not all that difficult.

  • Steely Dan

I really liked “All the President’s Men” until I saw the shoes that Dustin Hoffman was wearing in it. Totally ruined the movie for me.

  • Summer

I actually don’t remember any complaints about the Batman Begins armour. And I don’t remember any from the Spider-Man (Peter’s emo hair in Spider-Man 3 notwithstanding) or Iron Man movies either.

  • Knightoftomorrow

I remember people thinking it looked like he was wearing a Power Ranger-esque helmet. People were not really thrilled with the bat-suit to begin with.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QKN5MHOI6VUFOYCTV5REK7M7A4 Jacob

How could anyone complain about anything designed by Adi Granov? Perish the notion, personified season user.

  • Wgdaphne

I think it looks pretty cool. I think the movie looks pretty cool. I think its all going to be all Superhero Star Wars.

  • Jonqpublik

This is gonna make “Daredevil” look like Citizen Kane.

  • Tec449

The head looks too big for the body like a bad Photoshop job. Couldn’t they have given him a real costume to wear at least for the promo pics? Sorry I don’t see Hal Jordan. I see Ben Stiller. I’m sure the movie will be better than the marketing.

  • Omegasaga

I think people still cant seperate the “idea” of seeing a real life GL and whats actually pretty TERRIBLE.

    That costume is HORRID.
The feet thing is utterly retarded. The new TV WONDERWOMAN looks way better than this.

  • Omegasaga

This is by far way worse. It just seems like it might be cool cause of the Green tron aspect to the costume.
NO WAY is that feet thing gonna be ok.

  • Omegasaga

There is a HUUUUGE difference between an updated revamp and totaly lame.

Toes on a superhero is bat design concept 101.

In 80 yrs of comic book heroes there are tried and true things people like or dont like in costume designs. ….FEET on a superhero is utterly the dumbest idea yet.

  • 38 yrs on earth

Obviously you are a blind fanboy. Probably 20ish.
Maybe if youve lived on teh planet long enough you will have seen enough movies to know when somthing is blatantly bad. OR disrespectfull to the source material.

Everything from Ryan Renolds campy take… the mask…. and now the toes…. are all utterly horrible and VAILID complaints.

Spideys costume wasnt spandex yet it was awsome and faithful to the design.
This poor CGI mess is just that.

  • 38yrsold on this planet

so a movie can still be good if it is visualy terrible?

Comics and superheros are a visual spectical. if you get the costume of the lead character wrong.. thats 50% of the movie right there.

doesnt help that Ryan Renolds is camping it up by playing HIMSELF.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QKN5MHOI6VUFOYCTV5REK7M7A4 Jacob

Wait, you’ve seen the movie!? Oh thank god! I was so worried I’d have to go into this not knowing how the performances were! And, hey, since you’re from the future, howabout warning us of more important things than that Green Lantern sucks? I mean jeez asshole, a heads up about the earthquakes? Christ.

  • Keilj

HA HA HA HA HA HAHA HA HAHA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nick

I say a fan made trailer on you tube that got me excited about this movie…then I say the real trailer and the real costume and i suddenly dont care about this movie
