Hugo Strange Pegged (Again) As Villain In The Dark Knight Rises?

Christopher Nolan runs a tight set, as anyone who has been frantically searching the Internet for new information about The Dark Knight Rises knows too well. There’s been no shortage of rumor or speculation about the possible involvement of one classic Batman villain in particular: Dr. Hugo Strange. Star Gary Oldman previously hinted at the appearance of an “old, old” villain in the movie and Tom Hardy, who we now know is playing Bane, was once rumored for the Strange role as well.

Now what appears to be a synopsis for Rises has popped up on film production site My Entertainment World (via MovieWeb). There’s no telling if it’s real, but it does specifically mention Strange and even appears to peg him as the film’s main villain.

The Dark Knight Rises (aka MAGNUS REX & FOX HILLS GREEN) – Mid June, 2011 – India & London, UK & New York, NY & Pittsburgh, PA; STORY: As Batman deals with his new status as a wanted vigilante, Dr. Hugo Strange, a villainous psychiatrist, concocts a plan to destroy him and become the new Batman. (Posted: June 17, 2010. Revised: April 14, 2011)”

Could this be the not-Alberto-Falcone role that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was hired for?

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Nestor Carbonell, Daniel Sunjata and, presumably, Marion Cotillard. It opens on July 20, 2012.

Considering how many times this has popped up, I wouldn’t be surprised if Strange did end up being the villain.

Hugo Strange, Catwoman, Talia, Bane, Hmmm makes me think, that’s enough for two movies. I wonder if in fact he’s shooting two movies back to back here.

    Please make this true.

Allot of people to join The Dark Knight Rises. Doesn’t surprise me, this will top The Dark Knight no doubt, There will be so much more depth involved, I can’t fucking wait!

Is anyone else tired of hearing about new story and casting developments about the Dark Knight Rises?

I don’t want to hear about every little thing about the film before it comes out. The film already has the difficult task of following the Dark Knight, now it is going to have a ridiculously massive build up of expectations.

This film needs to be a little more secretive and discrete so when it does come out, the film will be enjoyable instead of predictable.

Nolan has already explored the Batman/Wayne character , I think he will have room for the development of multiple villain roles considering the majority draw of the main cast are re-occurring characters in which we have come to know from two films already . This is of course a good thing , his { nolan’s } depth could turn a bit on this one towards the villains which ‘batman begins’ slightly alluded to.

How much you wanna bet “Hugo Strange” will actually be Bane in disguise?

  • Eightiesologist

My one criticism of TDK was it felt like they forced Two Face’s development at the end whereas he could’ve been an entire movie plot by himself. Now i feel like this movie is heading that way too. I get that Nolan has other films he wants to explore and he doesn’t want to water down the Batman franchise. But yeesh, it’s almost seeming like he really had 5 films in him.

Hugo Strange becoming the ultimate Batman copy-cat would connect well with the foreshadowing of the copy-cat Batmen in The Dark Knight.

  • Bugfix

since Hugo Strange is the villain in Arkham City, he will not be the villain in TDKR.

  • Scud

The expectations for this film to be amazing are through the roof already.

  • Scud

That would be amazing but I kind of doubt it.

The Joker was the bad guy in Arkham Asylum and The Dark Knight, why can’t Hugo Strange be in both?

Considering the “pump-fake” from Batman Begins where Liam Neeson was cast as Henri Ducard and Ken Watanabe as R’as Al Ghul [and if I'm spoiling it for anyone, then you really shouldn't be reading this website], I think there’s a good chance that Tom Hardy could be playing both Dr. Hugo Strange and/or Bane.
