3D Porn Movie Takes Down Avatar At Hong Kong Box Office

Avatar is the product of almost 20 years’ worth of work on the part of director James Cameron. Untold millions were spent bringing the space-age 3D epic to screens, with reports pinning the budget to somewhere around the half-a-billion-dollar mark. It’s the top-grossing movie of all time in the United States and it sets box office records wherever it goes, including opening day sales in Hong Kong of HK$2.6 million (about $335,000 in U.S. currency).

Now, a 3D porn film — the world’s first — has taken it down. 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy opened in Hong Kong with ticket sales totaling HK$2.8 million, AFP reports. The film’s total gross so far hovers around HK$15 million ($1.9 million U.S.). Demand is so high that an extended version of the movie has been announced for release in a few weeks, adding an additional 15 minutes to the running time.

And there you have it. Avatar was outsold by porn. News flash.

I know Hong Kong isn’t China, but just how risque was this film? Just the location alone makes me wonder. Not that I want to see it! LOL

Well this does sound infinitely more compelling than Avatar.

“I know Hong Kong isn’t China” LOL! Go back to 6th grade! Hong Kong is one of two special administrative regions (SARs) of the People’s Republic of China and the other region is Macau you “smart” f..k. As for movie, it rocks, literally :D

From what I heard it was mostly soft-core in nature. And it’s release on the mainland would have probably been heavily edited, if it were shown at all. Chances are only Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan were able to get a full edit of it.

If you do a bit of digging there’s some amusing elements to it. For starters, apparently 2 of the 3 lead characters are japanese porn stars because the director found “chinese” (read Hong Kong or Taiwanese) actors to be too conservative to pull off the action.

both you guys are technically right. Technically. Hong Kong is officially part of China but it’s status as a special administrative region means you need a passport to get there from the mainland. Not only that, but going to Hong Kong means you are “leaving” China. I had to get my visa renewed thanks to that little quirk of politics and bureaucracy.
