Johnny Depp Wants ‘To Hold Off A Bit’ On Fifth <i>Pirates</i> Movie

Although the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides a little more than two weeks away, screenwriter Terry Rossio has already delivered his script for the planned fifth installment of Disney’s blockbuster fantasy-adventure franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that producer Jerry Bruckheimer has already said he’s up for another movie, and the studio reportedly has “made overtures” to Pirates 4 director Rob Marshall. But what about star Johnny Depp, who’s irreplaceable as Captain Jack Sparrow (unlike, say, Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley)?

He wouldn’t be opposed to another voyage on the Black Pearl, he tells the trade paper, with the right script and the right director. Just not immediately.

“It’s not something where I would say, ‘Let’s shoot it next month to get it out by Christmas 2012,’” says Depp, who hasn’t read Rossio’s screenplay. “We should hold off for a bit. They should be special, just like they are special to me.”

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which also stars Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane and Geoffrey Rush, opens in 3D on May 20.
