Watch The First Theatrical Trailer For Conan The Barbarian

Nearly two months after that unimpressive smoke-filled teaser, Lionsgate has premiered the first theatrical trailer for Marcus Nispel’s 3D reboot Conan the Barbarian, based on the legendary fantasy character created by Robert E. Howard.

A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.

Conan the Barbarian stars Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ron Perlman, Leo Howard, Steve O’Donnell, Raad Rawi, Nonso Anozie, Bob Sapp and Milton Welsh. It opens on Aug. 19.

    Can’t wait to see it!!!

Ok, this trailer is a whole lot better than the “smoke” teaser (that just sucked the big one). Looks nice, has a epic feel to it, and gives a little bit of a idea of the story. I wish they didn’t have Momao do the Arnold sword moves (I know, tip of the hat to the earlier movies). If your a Robert E. Howard fan, you know Conan wasn’t a “flashy” swordsman, he moved like lightning, killed quickly and proficiently, and moved on to the next target or got the hell out of the situation he was in. Yes, its a persnickety point, but, as it is said, “the devil is in the details”! Aside from that small grip, this trailer did make me do a little rethinking of the movie. It may not be a complete suck fest. It may be a good, well made film. Still not holding my breath. Time will tell.

Not sure about the film as a whole at this point (too soon), but there is some nice looking visual design work in that trailer – and that tentacly thing looks suitably Frazettaish.

  • Fearless

Mixed feelings here. Do anyone recognize this story line?

  • nik

Nope, not buying it. That faux heavy metal music crap can go. Looks like a slightly better produced Scorpion King. What’s slightly better than suck?

There aren’t that many different ways to hold a huge broadsword – it’s hardly a Schwarzennegger signature move, let alone a tip of the hat to the original film.

  • JMC

This looks really good. Momoa looks a hell of a lot more like Conan than Schwarzennegger ever did (not that he ever did anyway). I’m hoping that this film will forgo the “rock” soundtrack in the trailer for an ochestral one to give it that epic feel/ scale.

I’ll certainly be there come August 19th

    Looks good to me.

Obviously, it’s no Game of Thrones. But it looks like a lot of fun.

If they were to adapt one of the Robert E Howard stories next, which one should they do?

I’d choose “People of the Black Circle” or “Xuthal of the Dusk”

Excelent trailer. Movie looks true to the Novels.

BUT Mothma doesnt look like Conan at all. He still isnt bulky enough . and the haircut is all wrong

Moma looks like the Barry Windsor Smith early CONAN comics.

but since the mid 1970s until now- CONAN has always had a Schwarzenneger build with a XENA haircut.

MOMA looks like a pissed off BeastMaster. aka– forgettable and boring.
THe trailer looks good though. Just not Moma- which is why we see very little of him in the trailer

  • JMC

The track attached to the trailer is stock music and has been featured in many different trailers. I’m not sure what your problem is – the trailer screams this is Conan the Barbarian. Read the books and the comics – it has the tone. Momoa certainly has the barbarian aspect down pat in that trailer.

And Scorpion King is a pretty good film – I remember a lot of fans and critics saying it was as good, if not better than Conan the Barbarian at the time. It was certainly a helluva lot better than Conan the Destroyer.

“THe trailer looks good though. Just not Moma- which is why we see very little of him in the trailer ”

No offense, but that’s just silly fanboy nonsense – he’s the main star for God’s sake. And he looks a lot better than Schwarzennegger’s brainless interpretation IMO. Loved the original film, but apart from Arnie’s physique, he had nothing else going for him, and did not represent the Conan character well at all.
