Charles S. Dutton Cast In Powers

Charles S. Dutton, perhaps best known for his roles in Roc and Alien 3, has been cast in Powers, the FX adaptation of the long-running comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, he’ll play Captain Cross, head of the homicide division where detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim investigate cases involving “powers” — people with superhuman abilities — in a world in which superheroes and supervillains are common.

The pilot, greenlit by the cable network in February, will be directed by executive producer Michael Dinner (Justified, Sons of Anarchy). The script is by Charles “Chic” Eglee, former executive producer of The Walking Dead and veteran of such television series as Murder One, The Shield and Dexter. The series is a co-production of Sony and FX Productions.

FX Networks President John Landgraf has said he hopes to begin production on the Powers pilot “somewhere between late May and early July,” with an eye toward a premiere in early 2012. The network is reportedly courting former Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler to play Christian Walker.

Dutton, a three-time Emmy Award winner, co-starred in the short-lived CBS science fiction series Threshold. He most recently appeared in the 2009 supernatural thriller Legion.

Charles S. Dutton would be a interesting choice for the role
    Captain Cross.

Excellent choice. This show sounds promising.

  • Clem Nickel

As long as they cast Walker right, the rumored casting of Katee Sarchoff as Pilgrim is pretty much perfect. Dutton’s casting does nothing to dampen the promise.

So far, I’m in for this.

Is this to be a live action series, or animated?

  • Kevin Melrose

    It’s live-action.

  • Christopher Currie

…good choice for actor… good luck to the show..

  • Razzle Dazzle

They should do a live episode like his old show ‘Roc’.

I’m pretty sure Alien 3 was live to the theater, too.:)
