First Clip From X-Men: First Class

Yahoo! Movies premieres the first clip from the Matthew Vaughn-directed X-Men: First Class, featuring Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Raven Darkholme (Jennifer Lawrence) demonstrating their mutant abilities for disbelieving officials at CIA Headquarters. The scene also includes Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggart and the always-wonderful Oliver Platt as the Man in Black.

The 20th Century Fox film, which opens on June 3, also stars Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr, January Jones as Emma Frost, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast, Lucas Till as Alex Summers/Havok, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy/Banshee, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw, Edi Gathegi as Darwin, Jason Flemyng as Azazel and Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore.

X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

I’m going to love this movie. So much better than THOR despite what all the internet payola reviews saying how good THOR is.

  • Anonymous

    Payola?

Right. That’s exactly why Thor was less than 80% at RT its opening weekend.

If you didn’t like it fine, but cut the bullcrap.

:D This put a smile on my face.

    OK so now
Mystique can shapeshift her clothes? I thought the whole reason she had to be basically naked in the movies before was because she Couldn’t shapeshift her clothes, other than that great clip looks like thew movie will be awesome.

Not bad, but isn’t Stryker like 20 years too old here?

  • vamplock5

    @
Skapunkboi19 I am pretty sure she is naked at all times and just uses her abilities to make it look like she has cloths on. I don’t think at this age she was ready to show the CIA her…….smile?

I was thinking the same thing. They’re probably father and son.

Oh, good call. That never even occurred to me.

  • Faust

Not bad at all. I’m looking forward to this.

Have they made a Emma Frost (January Jones) trailer yet?

  • Faust

    Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get your X-parody soon enough! haha… ;)

  • Shifty

Agent Stryker? He’s in this? So then why does he look about 20 years older than he did in Wolverine Origins, which takes place about 10 years AFTER this movie? Its the same issue I have with Emma Frost.

  • Shifty

Also… Xavier really comes off as an arrogant ass in this scene.

    And where’s Moira’s accent!? :’(

What comics have you been reading? Xavier is an arrogant ass.

  • Erikgalston

Except in Wolverine Origins, “emma” is NEVER referred to as Emma Frost. she’s the sister of Silver Fox, how could she be the same character?

  • Lex

Oliver Platt? He’s the guy everybody thought had died some years ago. Because he looked so much like that actor from Murphy Brown. That was a sad bit of luck.

I’m still not interested. I didn’t read First Class. It’s basically like every other reimagining where everyone is younger. That’s it. Professor Xavier has all his hair. All of it? Come on. You know he had to be losing some of it his early 20s.

It’s the youth obsessed culture. BAH!

  • pDUB

indeed, prof X has always been a douche, but only now are they writing him as such.

  • Shifty

A lot of them for 26 years now.  And if you’ve read them, you’ll notice that while Xavier can be arrogant, he’s normally portrayed in a subtle less “ass” manner.  The only time he’s ever portrayed like that is when its badly executed and the writer is trying to make him come off as unlikable in order to make other characters look better.
