Showtime Cancels United States Of Tara, Renews Nurse Jackie

Showtime has canceled its acclaimed comedy-drama United States of Tara, TV Line reports. The series, which stars Toni Collette as a suburban housewife with dissociative identity disorder, will conclude its third, and now final, season on June 20.

Created by Diablo Cody from an idea by Steven Spielberg, Tara premiered in January 2009 to solid ratings, but has seen its audience shrink considerably; its third season has attracted about half as many viewers as the second. Collette won an Emmy Award in 2009 and a Golden Globe in 2010 for her portrayal of Tara Gregson.

There’s better news, however, for fans of Nurse Jackie: The cable network renewed the dark comedy, which stars Edie Falco, for a fourth season.

cancelling united states of tara REALLY sucks…there needs to be a letter writing campaign or something…

Woah, woah woah! Hold the phone! I don’t think they have enough room in their mailboxes for letters from all five of you!

this show is a great show, it explores mental disorders, homosexuality and really gives an insite into what some families may be experiencing. Some people with real taste in TV, the lucky ones, like this show because of those things. It wasn’t advertised well enough during the second season, so frankly, I’m unsure of weather people knew there was going to be a third season or not.
Sorry that this isn’t another piece of shit disney show that you uneducated, uncaring viewers enjoy more

Yea… I didn’t insult the show. I actually enjoy it. Didn’t watch it often, liked what I saw though. I was more insulting the fact that even though fans will be pissed, very few will actually do anything to try and save it. Sorry that this isn’t the usual MacFarlane-level joke you uneducated, over-aggressive viewers enjoy more.

I can’t say I’m surprised but I am a bit mad I liked this show.

I hope that they’ll be able to tie up the plot-lines running since the first season.

I kinda wish Showtime cancelled Nurse Jackie (one I didn’t like) and renewed United States of Tara (one I did like).

Tell me that Showtime didn’t cancel Dexter?!?

  • Lilducgirl

I was clearly stating that because you said “from all five of you”
YOU implying that the group of people in which you do not take part of.
It’s cool if you don’t like the show, it’s fine if you do. I couldn’t care less. It just frustrates me to see such sarcastic idiocracy displayed

No, actually, you were clearly decrying my taste in television. You said nothing about my comment on the fanbase. Of course I’m not one of the fans I was talking about. I’m not going to do a damn thing to save this show.

This is so sad to hear! This has been one of my favorite shows! Toni is absolutely amazing in it – and everything she does really! And its a great cast!

I’m really going to miss it! :(

Kevin – you should add in the ‘dislike’ button too – like youtube has. And then it hides the comment altogether if it gets alot! That way I could ‘thumbs down’ Kevin’s comments.

It would be funny to see more than 5 people do it based on his comments.

“That way I could ‘thumbs down’ Jacob’s comments.”

Fixed. Kevin hasn’t done anything wrong.

And that would be pretty funny. XD
