<i>The Muppets</i> Trailer Debuts

Disney has premiered an appropriately offbeat first trailer for The Muppets, which sees the return of Jim Henson’s beloved characters to the big screen for the first time since 2005, this time under the direction of James Bobin (Da Ali Gi Show, The Flight of the Conchords) from a script by Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller. It’s a good 50 seconds before the first Muppet appears, so hang in there. Here’s the official description:

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino house band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

The all-star cast also Rashida Jones, Zincludes ach Galifianakis, Jack Black, Ed Helms, Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry, Donald Glover and a host of others. The Muppets opens on Nov. 23.

saw the trailer, wasn’t funny. I would like to someday see an all Muppet cast, with an intelligently wriiten script.

    Not even remotely laugh-inducing.

Zincludes ach Galifianakis – I don`t know if the trailer is funny (where is it by the way?) but this was very funny already.

Last I heard, the Coen Brothers weren’t really into making a Muppets movie, so you’re probably out of luck.

However, if you’re looking for a bunch of seasons full of dorky, corny,and laugh-out-loud silly moments, look no further than the orignal series.  Additionally, the original Muppet movie is still an excellent family film that contains humour and has depth.  What more could you ask for?

If you’re not happy with all that then you’re probably just pretentious…

I find the concept of people whining that they don’t find a CHILDREN’S MOVIE all that funny to be hilarious.

Seriously, the original Muppets gets by with adults primarily on nostalgia factor in that most of us were raised on it, and I say this as someone who absolutely adores the Muppets.

I, for one, look forward to taking my kid to see this as she will absolutely love it.

That all said, this trailer seems to be going over peoples’ heads. It’s the freakin’ Muppets, it’s going to do well regardless of the trailer. This trailer’s dynamic is simply for the sake of luring you in and then BAM you’re hit with Muppets.

Don’t forget The Great Muppet Caper! Clever and hilarious.

I rather be hit by a tomato to the face. It might hurt less than being hit with a Muppet.

    Wacka, wacka, wacka.
