Why The Russos Are The Best Thing to Happen to the MCU Since Joss Whedon
If you’re picking up on a pun in the above headline then we’re on the same page. The debut trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes was full-on awesomesauce, and the latest somehow manages to trump it. Bringing back the creepy shot of the ape standing over the bed of the sleeping couple definitely helps. But also … WOW, WETA. Tremendous work.
We get a little more of the story here, too, with an arc that brings one young monkey into the hands of James Franco’s scientist Will Rodman. Said monkey grows up, grows smarter, sees that he’s being taken advantage of and takes action of his own. Oh, what action he takes. DAMN, this looks awesome. Even if every other element falls apart in the finished product, it’s nice to know with 100 percent certainty that we’ll at least be dazzled by WETA’s stunning digital effects work on those damn, dirty apes.
The Rupert Wyatt-directed film, which also stars Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, John Lithgow, Tom Felton, Tyler Labine and Brian Cox, opens on Aug. 5.
