Uncut Super 8 Viral Video Offers A Glimpse Of The Movie’s Monster

On the eve of the opening of Super 8, Paramount Pictures has debuted a three-minute video that stitches together all the black-and-white viral clips that have been released over the past few months for the J.J. Abrams sci-fi thriller. The grainy footage, purportedly shot in an Air Force lab in the 1950s, immediately brings to mind the Dharma Initiative training films from Lost. But it also provides a first glimpse at the extraterrestrial monster lurking in the shadows of Super 8.

Written and directed by Abrams and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Super 8 follows a group of friends in a small Ohio town who, while shooting a zombie movie, witness a train derail and something escape from the wreckage. Soon afterward, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place, and the local deputy attempts to uncover the terrifying truth.

The movie, which opens Friday, stars Kyle Chandler, Joel Courtney, Elle Fanning, Ron Eldard, Noah Emmerich, Gabriel Basso, Amanda Michalka and Zach Mills.

Saw it last night.  Pretty good, but a little slow in the middle.  The train crash is spectacular (the best I’ve ever seen on film).

As for the extraterrestrial – nothing spectacular, but definitely not ordinary.  It’s what you’d expect of a big budget CGI creature.  Can’t say anymore without spoiling it.

But the emphasis is clearly on the children and their story, NOT the E.T.

And if you were considering taking anyone under 11 – DON’T!!  This is definitely NOT E.T.
