Sony Sets Sights On Risk

Sony Pictures has hired Underworld: New Dawn screenwriter John Hlavin to transform Risk, “the game of global domination,” into an action thriller, Deadline reports.

The 54-year-old strategic board game is only the latest Hasbro property to make the march toward the big screen. The company, which owns Transformers and G.I. Joe, has also set up adaptations of the games Battleship, Candy Land, Clue, Ouija and Monopoly.

Invented by French director Albert Lamorisse and originally released in 1957, Risk pits players in a battle of conquest as they role dice to occupy 42 territories on a world map. How that will translate into a major motion picture is anyone’s guess.

The adaptation is a co-production between Hasbro and Overbrook Entertainment.

I bet this film will have a hard time invading Australia and Papa New Guinea if some other film gets there first.

It seems like Hollywood has gotten to the point where spoofs are pointless, because I can’t think of anything more ridiculous sounding than a Candy Land adaptation.

I used to love the game. I think I can do without the movie.

    For Christ’s Sake. Why.

Bah, I literally burst out laughing. It’s so rare to see a good inside joke on the internet.

I’m actually optimistic about this. If they put even half the amount of effort into this that they put into Transformers we could have a seriously kick-ass action movie.
