Bloody Red-Band Trailer Hits For Conan The Barbarian

If the recent television spots for Lionsgate’s Conan the Barbarian didn’t satisfy your quota for blood splatters and severed heads, allow me to point you in the direction of the just-released red-band trailer. “When a Cimmerian feels thirst,” Ron Perlman intones, “it is the thirst for blood.” With that, you can kind of guess down what blood-soaked path things are headed.

Directed by Marcus Nispel, Conan the Barbarian also stars Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan, Saïd Taghmaoui, Leo Howard, Steve O’Donnell, Raad Rawi, Nonso Anozie, Bob Sapp and Milton Welsh. It opens in 3D on Aug. 19.

A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.

They Can’t show all the Blood severed heads sex scenes (even though there’s no nudity) or the the word Fuck (in the background song) in a PG trailer

Waaaait a minute.  “CO-nin” as in “O’Brien”?  Not “CO-NAN”?  Really?  I mean, I’m as happy to admit my ignorance on this as I am with anything else, but COnin?  That’s not how I have ever once read it in the stories/comics.

Sorry, Eric, but you’re doing it wrong.  Conan is pronounced as in “Conan O’Brien,” or “Arthur Conan Doyle,” or any of the other Conans in history, because that’s how the name is pronounced.  It’s an Irish Gaelic name.  That’s how Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan, pronounced it, according to Novalyne Price (Howard’s girlfriend) and his friends.

It’s understandable, though: after the 1982 film popularized “CO-NAN,” it’s easy to see why people might double-take when it’s pronounced differently, and I’ve heard there were a lot of comics/stories fans who thought that pronunciation sounded more “barbaric.”

Well, thanks for the info. I really am someone who likes to “get it right,” so I’m glad to fix my ignorance.

I hope that the soundtrack isn’t going to be rock music, as the previews seem to indicate. I won’t go to see it, if that’s the case.

  • Just saying.

Um, the bared breast on the screaming bound tortured woman for starters.

This is more promising. I’m more interested in this now that it looks brutal.
