The Shield’s Scott Rosenbaum To Pen FX Pirate Drama Port Royal

Scott Rosenbaum, who wrote episodes of The Shield, Chuck and V, will pen the pilot for the FX pirate drama from Gale Anne Hurd and Graham King, The Live Feed reports.

Called Port Royal, the series is set in the notorious Jamaican city that become the center of Caribbean commerce and piracy in the late 17th century, and will revolved around the notorious pirates, corrupt politicians and ruthless merchants who called the port home. It’s based on an idea by Hurd (The Terminator, The Walking Dead), who’s long been obsessed with pirates and the “richest and wickedest city” in the New World.

Rosenbaum will executive produce the project with Hurd and GK-tv’s King, Tim Headington and Craig Cegielski.

This could be interesting if done right.

On BBC Radio 2 tonight, Prime Suspect creator Linda La Plante said she was on board (sic) this too…. and she was saying that researching it she was surprised how generally young these pirates were…. Edward Teach was only 27 when he died.

I like this concept, sort of a Deadwood but with Pirates.
