Watch The New Teaser For Green Lantern: The Animated Series

Cartoon Network has released a new promo for Green Lantern: The Animated Series, the Bruce Timm-produced CG-animated action series debuting this fall on the cable channel.

Starring the voices of Josh Keaton, Michael Clarke Duncan, Richard Green and Robert Englund, Green Lantern: The Animated Series is billed not as a rehash of the superhero’s origins, but rather as “the continuing adventures Hal Jordon and his comrades of the Green Lantern Corps”: “As Earth’s Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is used to being in dangerous situations—but he’s never faced anything like this! Set at the farthest reaches of deep space, Hal must face down an invasion from the Red Lantern Corps. Hal is soon joined by an all-new group of heroes on a mission to protect Guardian Space — and the Green Lantern Corps itself!”

    This looks pretty good.

  • Aelbein

My god that is ugly, ugly animation. And I was so excited for this…it looks cheap, it looks fast, and no matter how good the writing is, I will not be watching it.

  • John Byrne Says…

While I wouldn’t go so far as to call it ugly, I do have to say that I’m not so keen on that animation. I’ll give the first episode a try but the story will have to be extra good to combat the animation and keep me watching.

  • Lewis4510

When I heard they were using CGI animation I was thinking it was going to be as good as The Clone Wars animation. That looks butt ugly awful.

  • Jekahog

    I second that!
    It is repulsive!
Let’s how it plays out before I give it two thumbs down!

  • Firebird

Not bad, but it doesn’t quite feel a fluid as say the Clone Wars animated series.  But I’ll check it out.

  •!/ David R. Schmitt

The human character designs are pretty hideous in Clone Wars too.

  • Lead_sharp

WB…go away. No really, stop making things you’ve stopped being good at it.

  • Ryan

I’m optimistic, but I don’t like the style of animation. It’s like the flaws of Batman Beyond and Batman: The Animated series became 3 dimensional.

  • Zen Strive

    ugly, cheap, subpar

  • Shaun Rogers

they should have stayed with the old school styled animation!

  • nik

There were flaws in Batman Beyond and Batman: TAS?

  • nik

    Looks pretty dang cool.

  • Reid76

    Cancelled in one season…

Didn’t I just watch a CG animated.. nevermind.

  • Coryjameson

It gets much worse. DC/Warner is now making a new Batman series with this level of shitty Computer Graphics animation!

See? This is what happens when corporate managers gain absolute control over an industry where creativity and big ideas are important.

  • twm

    what’s wrong with 2d animation?
Hell, REBOOT could give this show a run for its money

  • Thundercats’ Ho

Ugly, ugly and ugly.  Will give it a shot story-wise, but I agree with JohnByrneSaidWhat? – it’s going to have to be damn good to overcome that craptastic CGI.

  • Wayne

Maybe this is just a first look, but it certainly doesn’t look very good just from what we can see here. Kinda cheap looking and rushed. I expected better from DC given the awesome animation for Young Justice.

  • Dswynne1

What the…?  Why is Green Lantern Hal Jordan?  It should be John Stewart, so that there could be a flow flow of continuity between JLU and this new one.  Oh, well…

  • TJR

Simmer down everyone. It’s just the trailer. Bruce Timm has done very well by us fans. Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.

  • l.a.amaro

My thoughts exactly. It has the looks of The Incredibles. Hopefully its just as good.

  • Graehaus

I’ll definitely give it a go. I hated Batman:TAS first off, then grew to love it. I just hope the voice fit.  Also it rocks that the REAL GL is on the show, I despise the JLU one.  Hal will always be GL in my books.

  • Lonely Wolf

Hal Jordan looks like Clark Kent has given him his chin. Also, i’m pretty sure trans-luminence travel can be achieved without the ship.

  • The Zug

Too bad they couldn’t have had this series debut BEFORE the movie–increased awareness would have improved their opening take.

Wouldn’t have kept the movie from sucking, though.

It looks a little simple, but my kids will probably go for it, which I’m guessing is the intended audience.

  • Anonymous

Oh shut up all of you, this looks cool, I’ll be watching anyway!

  • Mdamore4

Don’t you think they might just be a little more concerned with flow of continuity between, say, the multi-million dollar movie they just released, or even the animated video they just released, instead of a series that ended 5 years ago?

  • Jim jo

Wow you ‘despise’ the John Stewart GL (he can’t even rate a name–just the JL one?). I think that’s a bit strong since he was very well written and came across as one of the more memorable parts of that show–but since you despise him–let me just say that for many of us–Hal Jordan just comes across as ‘blah’–inconsequential and clearly American movie-goers felt the same way.

  • Bennett29560

I’m excited he’s getting an animated show, but I can’t say that I love computer animation for cartoons. Still, its GL and I’m gonna give it a good chance.

  • Helacaster

  • Christian Petersen

Looks like they might be able to pull this one off. It’s about time we had some quality Green Lantern stories. Plus, I’m pretty much the world’s biggest sucker for alien overloads, so bring on the Corps!!!

Check out these vintage scifi posters:

Nothing for nothing, but the clone wars really sucks and the animation blows. Marvel’s Earth Mightiest Heroes is way better guys.

  • screwelou

What I want to know though is if any of the blue lanterns going to be in it. Also, if anyone has seen the previews magazine, sometime, in september there is suppose to be about 4 new green lantern comics. One of them is suppose to be about all the colored lanterens. I wonder if the blue lantern ones will be previewed there. Anyone with additional info?

  • Greg

Hal Jordan is THE Green Lantern.

  • Notyetasuperhero

When I first heard about this I was super excited to hear Bruce Timm was doing a GL animated series and was hoping for updated Batman:TAS animation, I hate this stupid 3D animation kick. It’s why I haven’t been able to watch any new Transformers shows in years. I have faith in Timm though, as ugly as this looks I’m hopeful and will give it a shot.

  • Notyetasuperhero

You can’t rate a comicbook character based on a movie that’s like forming your opinion of Superman baased off Superman Returns.

  • Cjorg2

It looks great, especially taking into consideration that this is not a HD trailer.  The art style is very much that of the Incredibles.  I’ll be tuning in to watch.

The negative comments are they typical over-the-top nonsense.  Anytime you agree with Cory Jameson you must realise something is wrong with you…
