X-POSITION: Phoenix, Upstarts & More Tear Up Bowers & Sims' "X-Men '92"
Idris Elba has landed the lead role originally developed for Tom Cruise in director Guillermo del Toro’s giant-monster movie Pacific Rim, Deadline reports.
The Wire alum, who played Heimdall in Marvel’s Thor, joins Sons of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam in the sci-fi action film, which is set in a future where giant creatures threaten to destroy the Earth, one city at a time. To save the planet, humanity must band together, using advanced weapons technology to eradicate the monstrous menace.
Elba, who’s busy shooting Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, emerged early this month as the favorite for the role of Sensei in the Legendary Pictures/Warner Bros. production. Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans) wrote the screenplay; Legendary’s Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull are producing. Filming is set to begin in November.
