Jamie Foxx Will Star As Django In Tarantino’s Django Unchained

As Idris Elba moves toward a starring role in Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim, the title character in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained — a part the actor was said to be in the running for — goes to Jamie Foxx instead. News of the Oscar-winning actor’s casting comes from “sources close to the production” speaking with Variety.

Tarantino has also reportedly met with Kerry Washington about the role of Broomhilda, the Django character’s love interest, who has been kidnapped by a plantation owner. She also starred opposite Foxx in Ray, the performance that won him his Academy Award for Best Actor. Foxx is one more in what is arguably one of Tarantino’s most in-the-moment marquee casts, joining Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio and Samuel L. Jackson. Variety also reports that Tarantino met with Terence Howard and Chris Tucker for the Django role, and Will Smith was supposedly in the running at some point.

Sweet. This movie is going to have a great cast.
It’s nice seeing more westerns starting to pop up again.
