New International Poster Highlights Captain America’s Supporting Cast

Marvel and Paramount Pictures have debuted a new international poster for Captain America: The First Avenger featuring Chris Evans as the Sentinel Liberty, backed by his supporting cast: from left, JJ Feild as James Montgomery Farnsworth, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter and Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan — all under the watchful eyes of Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull.

Directed by Joe Johston, the film also stars Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci, Richard Armitage, Natalie Dormer, Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson.

Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).

Captain America: The First Avenger opens July 22 in the United States and July 29 in the United Kingdom.

  • Jason

    Looks pretty badass…

  • Ferrell

why does he always have no mask

  • Greg

What is with these stars in these superhero movies that ALWAYS have their mask off??
    So annoying!

  • Pedro

Can someone tell me why the hell is Steve Rogers using a handgun?

  • pDUB

don’t be a prude. its world war effing II

  • Jacob

Honestly, the mask makes no sense for Captain America, as his identity isn’t secret. It really doesn’t matter.

  • Wyatt Samuel K

Because he had a sidearm back in those days.

  • Jmcreer

Actually his identity was top secret back in WW2.  No one knew who he was.  It was only in modern marvel times he publicly revealed his identity.

  • Jacob

Aah. Do you think that holds with him being used for propaganda? (genuine question, not sarcasm)

  • Jmcreer

I’m pretty confident only A grade actors e.g. Will Smith, have any say on how they are represented on posters.  Chris Evans is not in that category and would have no sway on how he’s represented in merchandising, posters etc.  This would be the decision of Marvel Studios, not Chris Evans.

  • Jmcreer

That was the reason put forward in the comics – he was supposed to represent “every” American and freedom, thus his identity was hidden from the public in order to maintain the symbolism etc.

  • Faust

Star appeal to sell the movie. Ironman also included the faces of the cast – Robert Downey Jnr incuded.
