Universal Turns To Louis Morneau
To Direct Wolfman Reboot

Universal Pictures has tapped Carnosaur 2 director Louis Morneau to helm its follow-up to its 2010 remake of The Wolfman, Moviehole reports.

Titled The Werewolf, the project was originally set to be a sequel to the critically and commercially disappointing film. However, the studio scrapped those plans and instead had Michael Tabb rework his screenplay into an original feature described as “almost a reboot of the classic Universal monster movie series.” According to Moviehole, the new version has more in common with George Waggner’s 1941 classic that it does with Joe Johnston’s heavily criticized remake.

Morneau’s filmography also includes Bats, The Hitchhiker II: I’ve Been Waiting and Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, which may provide a clue to what we should expect from The Werewolf.

I have no idea what to think. Sounds like rebooted manure. I’ll probably watch it.

I didn’t think Wolfman was too bad. From what I hear, there were a lotta backstage screw-ups/departures before Johnston finally got his hands on it. It’s not great, but not crap, either. I’d pick it up if I saw it on the cheap.

Always interested in some actual werewolf action. These Twilight movies are murdering the concept…

From the list of Morneau’s films, I’m guessing they’re making this a straight-to-DVD flick? I guess I was one of the few that found Wolfman fun. Del Toro & Hopkins gave the cheese a bit more weight. I liked that it was a period piece. And it was far more gory than I was expecting for a big studio film. Not great, but some cheesy fun.
