TNT Brings Back Dallas

Just a day after it renewed the sci-fi drama Falling Skies, TNT has announced it’s given the greenlight to a sequel of sorts to the legendary prime-time soap Dallas.

Airing on CBS from 1978 to 1991, the original series centered on the Ewings, a  Texas oil and cattle dynasty embroiled in fierce rivalries, family power struggles and complicated schemes. Chief among the schemers was eldest son J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), the greedy oil executive who was famously shot in the Season 2 cliffhanger.

Hagman will return with Dallas veterans Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray for the new series, which stars Josh Henderson (90210), Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious), Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives). The 10-episode first season will air in summer 2012.

The new series picks up years after the bitter rivalry between brothers J.R. and Bobby (Duffy) led J.R. to lose control of the family company. The feud has spilled over into the next generation, with the future of the Ewing fortune now in the hands of cousins John Ross Ewing (Henderson), the son of J.R. and his ex-wife Sue Ellen (Gray), and Christopher Ewing (Metcalfe), the adopted son of Bobby.

TNT will air a special sneak peek on Monday during the season premieres of The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles.

“Airing on CBS from 1978 to 19981″? talk about legendary….!

haha… that had me on the floor! ;)

I never watched Dallas – mainly because I was just being born when it started, but hopefully it does better (and is better) than the Melrose Place reboot.

Josh henderson is a nice draw – but what the hell is he doing with a shirt on?!?

And Julie was great on Veronica Mars – but then, that show had ALL top talent! ;)

Hey TV producers, let me tell you about a great concept: it´s called “New Ideas”.

  • Mithibo

CBS should have bring Dallas.I remember watching The Dukes of Hazzard and Dallas every Friday night.CBS now have all kinds of shows like some comey shows  that are not very funny or entertaining.TNT have always had some best shows.CBS needs to cancel some of those unfunny comedy shows and some Action/Drama shows.

I know my mother will be happy about this. Just like Mithibo, we watched Dukes of Hazzard and then my mom got to watch Dallas right after. It was one of those give-and-take days for family TV.
