Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
Airing on CBS from 1978 to 1991, the original series centered on the Ewings, a Texas oil and cattle dynasty embroiled in fierce rivalries, family power struggles and complicated schemes. Chief among the schemers was eldest son J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman), the greedy oil executive who was famously shot in the Season 2 cliffhanger.
Hagman will return with Dallas veterans Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray for the new series, which stars Josh Henderson (90210), Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious), Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives). The 10-episode first season will air in summer 2012.
The new series picks up years after the bitter rivalry between brothers J.R. and Bobby (Duffy) led J.R. to lose control of the family company. The feud has spilled over into the next generation, with the future of the Ewing fortune now in the hands of cousins John Ross Ewing (Henderson), the son of J.R. and his ex-wife Sue Ellen (Gray), and Christopher Ewing (Metcalfe), the adopted son of Bobby.
TNT will air a special sneak peek on Monday during the season premieres of The Closer and Rizzoli & Isles.
