Evil Dead Remake Is Really A Thing, Bruce Campbell Says So

Oh, what glorious times we live in. Unreliable electric cars. A globe-spanning network of homophobes and racists. And now, as holyman Bruce Campbell himself confirmed via Twitter, a fourth Evil Dead movie. It’s not the first we’ve heard of the project, but it is further confirmation, only a good thing for a franchise that’s been dormant in the movies world for almost 20 years.

“Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.” Bruce Campbell, folks.

There’s also word from an anonymous source speaking to Dread Central, who confirms that Sam Raimi’s longtime editor Bob Murawski is in Detroit and working on the remake. “A small indie thing, like the first two,” the source said.

I’m torn between my natural worry over all things involving the word “remake” versus the assembling of the original talents behind the first movie for this one in particular. This IS Evil Dead, after all.

Even if it’s produced at an indie level, I find it hard to believe that a major studio won’t try to give it mass distribution. It’s a proven property. There’s no reason (other than wanting to avoid “mainstream”) to not at least pursue something along those lines.

Actually, Bob Murawski is in Detroit working on Raimi’s ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’, which is shooting on soundstages there. He might be doing some “Evil Dead’ prep, but ‘Oz’ is his main thing right now.
