Latest Captain America Poster Spotlights Howling Commandos

With just seven days until the premiere of Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, HitFix debuts one more poster that shines a spotlight on much of the film’s cast: Chris Evans as the Sentinel of Liberty, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull, Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan, Derek Luke as Gabe Jones, Kenneth Choi as Jim Morita, Bruno Ricci as Jacques Dernier and J.J. Feild as James Montgomery Falsworth.

Directed by Joe Johnston, the film also stars Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Stanley Tucci, Richard Armitage, Natalie Dormer and Samuel L. Jackson.

Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).

I’m a huge fan of Neal McDonough (I dunno why, one of those actors you always see in films and think “he is a great supporting actor, prob deserves more work compared to others”) and I’m a huge fan of Dum Dum in the comics, so this is a win for me.

I’m a fan of McDonough too. The reason why that he doesn’t get more film work is that he’s a devout catholic and has turned down roles or scenes that were too overtly sexual or violent. It’s also put a crimp in his tv work as well but to a lesser extent.

Looks like the cover to a Cap trade paperback. Badass!

Am I the only one hoping that this costume makes it’s way into the comics in someway? I think it’s fantastic. Also, is the black guy Jack Fury?

  • Jmcreer

When I first saw him in Star Trek: First Contact I thought, “That guy’d be perfect for Captain America if they ever do a movie.”  I was close…

I’m still saying they’re renaming the Howling Commandos to “the Invaders” in the movie. It just makes sense to me, seeing as the name just implies a proto-Avengers super hero team, ties into Captain America’s comic story and manages to include the Howling Commandos in place of Toro, Namor and the Human Torch, who wouldn’t really fit this more realistic take.

It is very elegant. I can not wait.

They’ve already referred to them as the Howling Commandos in the comics-tie in, and web-based comics.  No Invaders.

  • TRX

No, maybe he is Gabriel Jones… but then I wonder where is Nick Fury at that point?

  • Mythos

In the games, all the references are to “the Invaders”. You’ll see I’m right.

I don’t think they’re having Nick play a role in WWII. Regardless of whether they use the Infinity Formula or Project Rebirth to explain his aging, it would detract from whatever story they tell. It would just end up cluttering the story (unless the story was in a solo Nick Fury movie).

    Taken from Newsarama:
“In a side-story to the movie’s, you play as Captain America, who alongside his allies Bucky Barnes, Dum Dum Dugan (called the Invaders, not the Howling Commandos in this game, a switcheroo the Producer told us was originally planned for the film and changed too late to change the game), and more, is attempting to infiltrate and take down a Hydra stronghold that plays host to a secret weapon.”

They were originally going to be called the Invaders but changed to the Howling Commandos (a more appropriate and accurate name) at the last minute – too late to change the game.  Sorry – but I admire your enthusiasm.  I too am pumped for this film.
