Why The Russos Are The Best Thing to Happen to the MCU Since Joss Whedon
Deadwood and Lost alum Titus Welliver has been cast as Triphammer in FX’s Powers pilot, AOL TV reports.
He joins Jason Patric, Lucy Punch, Charles S. Dutton, Bailee Madison and Carly Foulkes in the adaptation of the long-running comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. Powers is a police procedural that follows two detectives who investigate cases involving “powers” (people with superhuman abilities) in a world where superheroes and supervillains are common.
Welliver, fresh off of stints on the television dramas The Good Wife and Sons of Anarchy, will play the Iron Man-like inventor of the power drainer — as the name suggests, it temporarily neutralizes superhuman abilities — in what would be a recurring role if Powers should be picked up to series. The character is described by FX as “a genius and a narcissist,” a combination of Steve Jobs and Donald Trump.
The pilot, written by Charles H. Eglee (The Shield, Dexter, The Walking Dead) and directed by Michael Dinner (Sons of Anarchy, Justified), is shooting now in Chicago. Eglee and Dinner serve as executive producers along with Bendis, Oeming and David Engel. Sony Pictures Television and FX Productions will co-produce. The network is looking to premiere the series in early 2012.
