Captain Planet Live-Action Movie Coming From Cartoon Network

Well here’s some news that doesn’t suck at all. Cartoon Network confirmed in a press release that it has partnered with Angry Filmworks to develop a live-action movie adapted from the environmentally friendly ’90s superhero cartoon series Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Angry will handle the heavy lifting, with Don Murphy and Susan Montford’s company being given “exclusive rights to develop and package the property and advance it towards production.”

The environmentalist angle is obviously still a pretty strong focus, given today’s … ahem … climate. “The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today,” Snyder said in a statement. “We feel this team can bring the world’s first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining.”

I’m sold. Bring on the Captain Planet.

    Oh, God, no…

  • Brentg81291

…I will only watch this IF Ted Turner is Captain Planet. Nuff said.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

  • Mak

Can we get a live action Bionic 6 Film instead?

  • Anonymous

The problem I have with a live action Captain Planet is his crystal blue skin and green mullet.

I could take an animated  Captain Planet, but live-action? Yeesh.

  • DoubleWide

Why is God’s name are they making a Crapton Planet movie? Just because Al Bore won an Academy Award for his bogus film and won a Nobel Peace Prize for junk science, and Global Warming has been proven to be a phoney crisis (why else would Bore by an ocean side property?)  doesn’t mean we need more propaganda.

  • Another Ian

    Yes please.

  • Rashaun Jackson

Let Seth Green or the Lonely Island guys do it, and I’ll watch.

  • Jacob

    Hell no. They’d ruin it.

  • Jacob

I don’t think the mullet will survive the adaptation. That was definitely a 90’s thing.

  • Jacob

    Fuck yea.

I’m starting to wonder if “conservatives” should be called “consumatives” instead… There’s nothing wrong with trying to teach kids that they should try and live an environmentally friendly life.

  • Adamh12110

I have no problem with teaching kids to think about the environment.  But it was such a ridiculous show, even when I was a kid.  I mean, the villians polluted the environment not to save time or money, but because they thought it was fun!  And the American kid, Wheeler, was always clueless and had to be taught the lesson of the day!  Why was he chosen as a Planeteer if he was so clueless about the planet?

  • 0bsessions

    Wait, what? Why?

  • jim gorr

This must be a sign of the Hollywood Apocalypse, lol…

  • Jacob

No, he’s come to clean up that town!

  • CaseyJustice

    Our world is in peril…
