CCI | Game Of Thrones Lands Liam Cunningham As Davos

Mere hours after HBO announced the casting of Stephen Dillane and Carice van Houten as Lord Stannis and Lady Melisandre in Game of Thrones, Entertainment Weekly reports the cable network has settled on the final major new role for Season 2.

Veteran Irish actor Liam Cunningham, who appeared in Clash of the Titans and, most recently, Outcasts, will play the fan-favorite Davos Seaworth, an infamous smuggled who was elevated to knighthood after piloting a boat filled with onions and other food into Stannis’ besieged castle, saving the starving forces within. Davos, commonly known as the Onion Knight, receives a land and title as reward, but Stannis also cuts off the first joint of each of the fingers on his left hand as punishment for his criminal ways.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling fantasy epic A Song of Ice and Fire, HBO’s Game of Thrones earned 13 Emmy Award nominations last week, including nods for outstanding drama and outstanding supporting actor.

The show’s producers and stars will appear Thursday at Comic-Con International in a panel moderated by the author himself.

I disliked the shows presentation, and thought the directing, scripting, blocking, and editing were all pretty terrible.

On the other hand, they have absolutely nailed the casting for pretty much everyone (Jon Snow could use some work).

Cunningham looks nothing like they way I imagine Davos, but I am anxious to see how he actually looks in the show.
