CCI | Marvel Debuts Art Of Thor, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents In The Avengers

CBR/Spinoff Online’s coverage of Comic-Con 2011 is brought to you by

On Thursday Marvel released concept art for The Avengers of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Chris Evans as Captain America, followed on Friday by illustrations of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Now today finds the studio unveiling art of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and … the movie’s key S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives.

That’s right, Marvel is holding Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, presumably to end Comic-Con International with a gamma-powered bang, and instead surprises us with an illustration of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, guns drawn and ready for action.

The convention-exclusive posters are available at Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier-themed booth.

Directed by Joss Whedon, The Avengers opens on May 4, 2012.

I was hoping for the S.H.I.E.L.D. uniforms to make the transition.

  • Richard Nelson

I’d wondered what the weird black triangle on the right of the Hawkeye art was supposed to be.

(It’s the tail end of Fury’s coat, obviously).

  • Jacob

I didn’t even realize these were a panorama.

  • Richard Nelson

    Me either, til just now!

For the curious, thus far it goes Black Widow, Iron Man; then Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Presumably Hulk will link Iron Man & Cap…

  • Jacob

Right, I just meshed them in PSCS5. They should have released them together. It’s a much cooler image that way. Really gives the “Avenging” feel.

  • Drfunkphd

So, since they’ve been releasing two per day, who’s going to come out with Hulk tomorrow? The villain?

Assembled all the images for viewing pleasure

  • Mythos

I admit I hadn’t realized it was just one big poster. Well spotted!

    not digging her hairstyle tho.

  • Hattertim

But that’s what her hair looks like in the comic? There’s just no pleasing some fanboys!

  • Gcorneliusx

Oh yes, kept the best until last…..get in THOR….woooo

  • Alfredo Wilson

Thank you. I was wondering what it would look like.

  • Skapunkboi19

I thought i saw a different costume on Thor in the Avengers trailer, and i kinda liked that one better.

No kidding, I LOVE her hairstyle like that cos it’s Maria Hill! I was worried they might let Cobie keep her hair long cos of HIMYM but hey! It’s awesome, she looks cute with it AND now she also looks like Maria Hill… loving this

  • Cjorg2

Looks like Fury’s lost that spare tyre that was following him around in Iron Man 2 – nice to know SHIELD has a fitness requirement!

Digging the Hellicarrier in the background too.  This film’s going to be awesome.

  • Ortiz

The complete poster is gonna look awesome!! Can’t wait :D

  • David Scholes

    This artwork looks great!

Can’t wait to see the Avengers movie. Is their a suggestion of Odin appearing in the movie?

I’ve written some Thor fan fiction. Scroll down below my author profile to see over 40 stories:

  • Mr. Avenger

This is old artwork, dated to the single hero movies, Thor’s costume is different plus all the background characters like Whiplash, Odin, etc. are clearly not part of the Avengers movie.

  • Beane2099

I thought the same things at first, but I realized it’s the same costume, but it’s missing the arm thingies.

  • Jacob

These are not old artwork. In fact, it’s one gigantic shot of The Avengers together. The backgrounds for existing characters spotlights their solo history before the team. Expect to see Abomination and General Ross behind Hulk.

  • Mr. Avenger

I shouldn’t have said old, what I meant is dated to the single hero movies.  Thor’s costume in the Captain America Avengers teaser has the chainmail removed from the arms which is a massive improvement since he looks like the classic Thor older fans will remember.  Based on that I would say these are not 100% accurate with what we will finally see in the movie and actually came before as promotional art pieces.

  • Jacob

    They saved Hulk for last.

  • Jacob

Cap, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Nick Fury all look different than they did in past movies. The only one that holds for is Thor.
