G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes Now Called G.I. Joe: Retaliation

All sorts of news is swirling about the G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra sequel, starting with a new title: G.I. Joe: Retaliation. I wonder if the move away from Cobra Strikes has anything to do with the fact that neither Cobra Commander nor Destro will be returning. The news comes from Deadline, which also reveals that the sequel will take the June 29, 2012, release slot that was previously occupied by the Star Trek sequel.

In related news, Deadline also reports that Joe Mazzello will play the role of Mouse in the Jon Chu-directed sequel. Mazzello is probably known best for his starring role as a child actor in Jurassic Park, in which he played one half of the young brother/sister duo trapped on the island with rampaging dinos.

Has it been confirmed that Cobra Commander in Destro are not in the script?  I thought maybe they just hadn’t announced it yet.  I can’t imagine those two not being in a GI Joe movie, and it’s not like the roles can’t be recast from the first one.

That’s silly that Cobra Commander nor Destro will be in it.  You should at least swing for one of them.

So who exactly are G.I. Joe retaliating against if neither Destro or Cobra Commander are in it, surely thats ridiculous and it maybe my failing memory but i’ve no recollection of this Joe called Mouse that Joe Mazzello has been cast as.

Are they going to just drop the Zartan ending from the first film like it never happened?? Or will that be who the Joes retaliate against?

  • Mak

I go a better question: Whose retaliating who?

the actors from the first film are not returning is what he meant. Cobra Commander and Destro are in the film, but their actors have changed and so has their look.

Hope so – Cobra Commander looked like shit in the first one.  Hope they put Snake Eyes in the classic outfit as well.
