Pacific Rim Gets Rob Kazinsky, Possibly Willem Dafoe, Too
Guillermo del Toro summed up Pacific Rim pretty well last week at the Legendary panel during Comic-Con International in San Diego: “Giant fucking monsters against giant fucking robots.” How can a nerd not love that guy?
Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi and Max Martini are already set for roles in the movie, and now there are two more names to add to the list: Rob Zazinsky and Willem Dafoe. Variety reports that Kazinsky is completely confirmed for the role of one of the humans trying to take down Earth’s alien invaders (the “giant fucking monsters” del Toro mentioned). Dafoe isn’t a lock, but he’s in talks for “a rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures.” Hopefully it’s a crazy rogue scientist. Dafoe gives good crazy.
Note that this news appears to come from an anonymous source, as the Variety report mentions that Legendary Pictures, which is producing the film, had no comment. Production expected to kick off sometime this fall.
