Arena, Formerly Known As Deathgames, Gets A Trailer

I’ve been following Arena since it was announced earlier this year as Deathgames. That title should have stuck around, too. Arena is pretty blah overall, interchangeable with any number of other titles. Deathgames, though … that’s one you remember. It’s just the sort of over-the-top ridiculous that suits this movie’s subject matter perfectly.

Twilight‘s Kellan Lutz stars as a young man abducted and forced to participate in a series of arena fighting matches broadcast on the Internet under the name “Deathgames.” The twist to these proceedings is that the viewers themselves decide when a combatant lives or dies by clicking the appropriate link in the fight’s final moments. All of the fights are themed, with digitally rendered landscapes appearing around the fighters and period-relevant garb/weaponry used to enhance the impression of each fight unfolding in a familiar locale.

The movie comes out on Oct. 11, and there’s a trailer online that you can check out right here. Based on what we see here, Arena is walking a fine line right now between being magnificently terrible or just straight terrible. Let’s all hope for the former.
