Disney’s Snow White Meets Seven Samurai Thing Has A Director

Disney’s live-action The Order of the Seven, known as Snow and the Seven when it was pitched in 2002, appears to actually be moving forward. There are two other Snow White movies in production, at Relativity and Universal, but this one is different enough to be … well … really different.

The news is that commercials director and visual effects artist Michael Gracey will direct once his deal is finalized, Heat Vision reports. The script, which was most recently reworked by Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3), follows a group of international warriors — with different fighting styles, ‘natch — who set out to take on some kind of ancient evil in 19th-century China.

So. Yeah. I’m guessing there’ll be some princess encountered along the way who goes by the name of Snow. Maybe not “Snow White,” but you can bet there will be some sort of allusion to the original story’s name. Maybe she’ll dress in nothing but white. Still, let’s review: action movie with Disney money behind it, seven warriors with seven different fighting styles, ancient evil. Looking good so far.
