Man Of Steel Confirms Crowe, Ormond, Traue And Others

It’s worth pointing out that, along with the first look at Henry Cavill as Superman, comes confirmation of the central cast of director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Before this morning, Warner Bros. had only officially announced Cavill, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White (the latter broke Wednesday through corporate sibling Entertainment Weekly, so it was fairly official). But now we finally have a statement confirming Russell Crowe as Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El, Julia Ormond as his Kryptonian mother Lara Lor-Van, Antje Traue as “Zod’s evil partner” Faora, Harry Lennix as General Swanwick and Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy.

Still no word on Jimmy Olsen, though — or whether Superman’s traditional red trunks are gone, or merely hidden by shadows.

Man of Steel, which opens June 14, 2013, is written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer and Christopher Nolan.

    No Lex?

If you do shadow enhancement in Photoshop it does appear that the red trunks are there, but it’s unclear with the pose exactly how brief they are cut…

Does this feel animated to anyone else?

I’m trying to get them to show up, but I’m not having any luck. How did you go about doing it?

That cast list is amazing. Cautiously excited about Man of Steel. Emphasis on cautiously.

I’m always excited for a superman movie but it feels like the movies tend to recycle what has already been done.! Instead of luthor and zod how about a new villain like brainiac.

The arm bands go back to the early action comics issues.
The costume looks very AWSOME on him.

NITPICKS:   No S curl haircut?     The stupid tiny S sheild triangles are on the actual S again.( they did that in superman returns)

Otherwise we FINALLY have a HUGE musclebound superman.

I think it’s hilarious the amount of time and effort you’re investing in investigating Superman’s crotch.  Good luck – keep us informed as to the outcome.

Christopher Reeve WAS a huge musclebound Superman – unfortunately the spandex hid a lot of his definition.  In addition, he was over 6″ 4″  Check out the special features on the original Superman DVDs

I invested all of about 30 seconds? I used the obvious technique I know to do that kind of thing, it didn’t work, so I asked Jeff here how he did it.

    Image->Adjustments->Shadows/Highlights

Crank the shadows up as far as they go, then zoom in tight.

Definitely appears the crotch is a different colour, but with such heavy shadows and the muted colours it’s indeed subtle. Maybe boost the vibrancy too?

That’s the way movies have been going for the past few years.

No it’s not. If anything, CGI has been getting more and more realistic and looking less like animation.
