Depp, King To Adapt The Vault

GK Films has acquired the rights to The Vault, the Image Comics miniseries written by Sam Sarkar, senior vice president of Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil production company,” Heat Vision reports. Depp and Infinitum Nihil President Christi Dembrowski will produce the adaptation, along with Graham King and Tim Headington of GK Films.

Created by Sarkar and artist Garrie Gastonny, The Vault follows a team of treasure hunters struggling to excavate a legendary treasure pit before a massive storm strikes Sable Island, known as the “Graveyard of the North Atlantic.” However, during their exploration, the divers uncover a sarcophagus, inadvertently unleashing an ancient evil far worse than nature’s fury. The first issue of the three-issue miniseries was released in July.

Sarkar and Gastonny previously collaborated on Caliber, Radical Publishing’s Western retelling of Arthurian legend. An adaptation of that comic is in development from Infinitum Nihil, John Woo’s Lion Rock Productions and Radical Pictures. Woo is attached to direct.

Act fast Dawnell since the first issue, which came out last week, is sold out at the distributor level. Meaning that what the stores have is currently all they can get. More info on The Vault can be found at http://www.facebook.com/thevaultcomic and http://www.twitter.com/thevaultcomic.

Also wanted to note that John Woo has long dropped out completely from the Caliber project. Don’t know if there is any development still going on or not.
