After Prometheus, Ridley Scott Will Return To Blade Runner

First it was Alien. Now Deadline reports that Ridley Scott is turning his backward-facing attention to Blade Runner, his 1982 sci-fi classic that explored a beautifully realized cyberpunk dystopia. He’ll direct and produce it after the Alien- connected Prometheus is finished.

First, you get my nerdjoy response…

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!! MORE BLADE RUNNER!!!!!!!! THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m guessing many of you had a similar response. Now I’ll put my realist hat on: 1982 Scott and 2011 Scott are two very different people. The former came screaming off the success of 1979’s Alien to deliver his vision of a cyberpunk world. Meanwhile, the latter’s most recent effort was Robin Hood. Yeah, that. Oddly, Scott will once again be going from an Alien movie to a Blade Runner one, just like he did three decades ago. Here’s hoping the latest one-two punch is similarly excellent.

It’s not clear if this Blade Runner return will be a sequel or a prequel, or perhaps a Prometheus-like “story within the universe” (or whatever we’re calling the connection between it and Alien these days). Scott will produce with Alcon Entertainment, which is perhaps best known for its involvement with The Blind Side.

Robin Hood was an excellent film, and very well directed so I don’t get your point.  The DVD Director’s Cut is even better.  You’re just being a tosser.
