Josh Brolin To Star In Oldboy

We heard a month and a half ago that Josh Brolin was a favorite to star in Spike Lee’s adaptation of Oldboy, and now it’s official.

Brolin has landed the lead in Lee’s take on Park Chan-wook’s 2003 South Korean film for Mandate Pictures, Deadline reports. Production will begin in March 2012, after Brolin wraps up his work on Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad. The actor recently wrapped production on Men in Black 3, which hits theaters next May.

Brolin and Lee will be taking their cues from a script written by Mark Protosevich, who is also producing alongside Vertigo Entertainment and Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule. The English-language re-do dates back to 2008, when DreamWorks picked up the rights with an eye toward Steven Spielberg directing and Will Smith starring. I think we can all agree that the vision for the film would have been vastly different with that headlining duo, as compared to Lee/Brolin.

Just NO, Oldboy is perfect as it is

I think the 1st Oldboy movie could have been better, if they didn’t change it from the manga and their mostly making this movie for the people that haven’t seen the original.

Josh Brolin is highly underrated. Awesome casting. He’ll own it.

Yet another movie that doesn’t need to be remade. Why can’t an American audience just, oooh, I don’t know, watch the original?

Because isn’t not in English, it has no big name actors to pull in American audience and the original wasn’t really ture to the magna.

I felt it was nasty and ridiculous and over the top. I didn’t know it was based on manga which I generally like.Spielberg and Will Smith is even more ridiculous to consider as a team on anything but Oldboy may have helped bury Will Smith’s career. Which would be a major plus in itself.

Wonder who’s going to play Josh’s “love” (or lust) interest. ;-)

I never new there was a comic of Oldboy to begin with. But as a film its one of the most daringly twisted revenge films ever. It shows the level that someone will go to to exact revende and is a total mindf*&k. If they change any of the story structure for the remake then I will in no way support it.

The film changed a lot from the manga and I think the American version will be more faithful then the original.

See differences from the manga below.
