Avengers (And Stan Lee) Assemble In Photos From New York City Set

Filming of The Avengers moved from Cleveland, which doubled as Stuttgart, Germany, and New York City, to the real New York City, where scenes were shot over the weekend in midtown. Photos from Central Park provide us with a look at the largest public gathering yet of the ensemble cast, with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston and Stellan Skarsgård all on set (with director Joss Whedon). Warning: Potential spoilers, naturally!

We also get the clearest images to date of Renner’s Hawkeye costume, as well as an indication of Stan Lee’s cameo in The Avengers. As we can see from the photo, Lee and Evans are seated at different tables outside a coffee house, where Worst Previews reports Evans’ Steve Rogers is joined by an older man, believed to be a fellow World War II veteran.

According to The Daily Mail, there were several scenes staged around midtown, including a “disaster area” with burned-out cars and piled-up taxis, and, outside a building, wreckage of what’s believed to be the Avengers’ quinjet.

Many more photos from the New York City set can be found at Comic Book Movie (here, here, here and here) and The Daily Mail.

The Avengers, which opens May 4, 2012, also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg and Cobie Smulders.

It’s surreal watching Thor and Loki standing around chatting.  All these live-action Avengers in once shot, it’s like a childhood fantasy.

Word, brother! I keep telling myself NOT to look at any of this stuff! I wanta be surprised and see the film fresh when it comes out, but it’s all too damn exciting!! And yo, agreeded, SJ has seriously got THAT ASS!! Damn, she fine!! An excellent addition :).

What slays me is (and this is NOT a thing against the DC movies I hope the’re cool to) but the production shots look really good on this and bland on the DC movies, not bad just bland.

I think DC is really showing their lack of confidence in Superman by not releasing next year. Supes’ AND Batman V.s The Avengers? May have stood a chance there but as it stands TDR will make a heap of cash in one go and everyone will go ‘Oh wasn’t it good’ but The Avengers will make audiences go OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH and sell a heap of merchandise and so on.

‘Corse they all might be crap.

Still stunned that this is actually being made. If you had told my twelve year old self that this was going to happen I would never have believed it. Only thing that still…nags…at me is that Thor isn’t wearing the helmet.

  • Ian Salmon6

is nobody mentioning that Cap’s costume is an embarrassment. After getting the tone right on his own film they’ve made this ‘new look’ into everything negative that people expect from superhero films

  • Bhanusi24

So far I like captain america’s custom more from his own movie than the upcoming avengers movie. I wish they kept that one instead.

@Ian Agreed. That Cap costume is going to need a lot of lighting adjustments to look good. I mean a LOT. Where is the chainmail? Chainmail is badass, this is not. Or just tweak the WW2 costume. Everyone else looks good however.

I was just about to comment on Scarlett Johansson Ass!!!!

Agreed. The overall costume isn’t that bad, but he looks incredibly uncomfortable. The helmet is bad though.

The one in his solo movie was fantastic.

  • Jcupach

I feel the same way. I wish I could have made it as an extra when they filmed in Cleveland. The only way this could have been better is if they had Scarlet Witch in it.

    Yeah, Cap’s costume looks bad.

  • John Smith

While this is happening, there is a pooch with a sore butt in the offices of the DC and Warner execs. As much as I love DC, this is one of the reasons why Marvel has 40%+ of the comics marketplace, and they deserve it.

  • RunnerX13

Evans looks a lot smaller too.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QKN5MHOI6VUFOYCTV5REK7M7A4 Jacob

Ya know, I think you’re right. Even the shots out of the costume look like he’s lost a lot of his bulk. That makes me sadfaced.

  • Smart bomb

Geekgasm! Can’t wait to see this. That is some wig caps wearing lol. Hope ay some point we get retro cap costume in play!

Can not wait to see this movie, marvel really embraces superheroes in a way dc seem to be embarrassed by them and go for that ‘realistic’ look (as much as I love dc)

  • Shaun

    That’s Scarlett’s ass that’s got you hard.

Wait, that’s what’s got ME hard.

  • Shecky

Is is just me or does Captain America look smaller in this costume than he did in the WWII costume he wore?

  • Shaun

Yep… I like the Cap movie this summer, but the modern-day costume looks atrocious. Not sure what could be done differently, but he really looks goofy. I think it’s the helmet/mask. Would raised wings help? Dunno. But it looks bad, and Evan’s boyish face makes it seem even more silly. He looks like Steve Rogers, when out of the costume, to me. But the helmet is terrible and the rest of the costume seems much too busy.

Anyhow, let’s get back to ScarJo’s ass!

    You are not alone.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QKN5MHOI6VUFOYCTV5REK7M7A4 Jacob

To me it’s definitely the helmet. They shouldn’t have messed with it. His other one was great.

  • Kyle

There was a time when I was a little put off by the lighter tone taken by the Iron Man movies.  I thought they could have made them a tad more gorwn up, allowing for such things as Tony’s drinking problem, but now, seeing this, I totally get it.  I see that picture of Tony talking to thor, and I believe it 100%.  If his solo movie had been darker and more serious, it would have been a real stretch putting him on the screen with an extra-terrestrial norse god.

    Fangirl squee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Shaun

Very exciting, but I agree with the overall consensus: Cap’s costume looks really bad, starting with that stupid helmet and the stupid wings. It worked really well in his own movie – why are they putting him in shiny spandex (or something like that) now? And what is the problem with the helmet?

That aside this looks good. But I still wish that they had more women in the group. And maybe even, God forbid, someday, someone who is not white.

I find that sexist. I did the same thing and I’m definitely not a girl. ;)
