Fox, DreamWorks To Co-Finance Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse
Fox and DreamWorks are hammering out a deal to co-finance Steven Spielberg’s next film, an adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s new sci-fi thriller Robopocalypse, Deadline reports.
Spielberg acquired the rights to the novel in 2009, and committed in October 2010 to direct the adaptation as a follow-up to War Horse.
Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard penned the script which, as the title suggests, chronicles efforts by the human race to survive a robot uprising. Like Max Brooks’ World War Z, Robopocalypse unolds as an oral history assembled from interviews and security-camera footage.
According to Deadline, Disney will handle domestic release while Fox will distribute the film overseas. It’s set to open in the United States on July 3, 2013.
