"Rowdy" Roddy Piper Reported Dead at 61
Greg Nicotero, Emmy-winning special effects artist for The Walking Dead, has inked a first-look deal with AMC to develop new projects at the cable network. He’s also been promoted to co-executive producer of the acclaimed drama, and will direct an episode in the second season, which premieres Oct. 16.
Co-founder of KNB Efx Group special effects studio, Nicotero has worked on such films as Dances with Wolves, Kill Bill, Sin City and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He took home an Emmy on Saturday for his prosthetic makeup on the zombie drama.
Nicotero also conceived and directed a six-episode Walking Dead web series that will debut on the AMC website Oct. 3. Produced by Generate and written by John Esposito, the webisodes delve into the backstory of “Bicycle Girl,” the most memorable walker from Season 1.
“Working on The Walking Dead with such a fantastic cast and crew has been an amazing opportunity, and to have our contribution to the show celebrated is a tremendous compliment,” Nicotero said in a statement. “I have always felt like the show had a cinematic feel and everyone involved is dedicated to making this show something special. To be able to branch out and to develop not only the web series but also genre material is something I have always wanted to do; given the people I have had the pleasure of working with over the last 23 years.”
