INTERVIEW: DiDio & Lee on "Dark Knight 3," Vertigo's Future & DC's Evolving Readership
If you’ve ever wondered what Leonardo DiCaprio would look like as an older, balding man who’s let himself go a little bit, the trailer for Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar is for you. DiCaprio plays the country’s first FBI director, a position he earned after helping create the agency in 1935. Hoover served as the agency’s top dog from its founding until his death in 1972. His career can best be described as “colorful,” and it should make a fascinating film subject, especially with talents like Eastwood and DiCaprio steering it along.
Based on what we see in the trailer, it appears that the film will be exploring a fairly broad cross-section of the noted public figure’s life. Younger Hoover is pretty much DiCaprio as we know him now, but the man’s later years will see the actor putting on heavy amounts of makeup. If we’re being honest with ourselves, it looks a little silly in these brief clips. It may well play better when it’s all viewed in context however, so I’m keeping an open mind.
The film, which opens Nov. 9, also stars Naomi Watts, Judi Dench, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas and Ken Howard.
