New Dark Knight Rises Set Photos Reveal More Of Catwoman Outfit

Responding to decidedly mixed reactions to the first look at her Catwoman costume in The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway assured skeptical fans last month that they’ve only seen “about a tenth of what that suit can do.” Naturally, that sparked speculation about the exact nature of the outfit which, as we could see from snapshots of the actress’ stunt double, features a utility belt, thigh-high boots and arm-length gloves.

Now we can add to that list cat ears and a mask, surprisingly similar to those worn by Julie Newmar, Eartha Kitt and Lee Meriwether in the 1960s Batman TV series and 1966 movie. (Presumably the cat ears drop down to create the goggles we saw in the first official still.) The images, courtesy of Just Jared, come from the Los Angeles set of the Christopher Nolan film, where Hathaway was joined on Saturday by stars Christian Bale and Gary Oldman.

So much for the contention that Catwoman’s Dark Knight Rises costume was inspired by Darwyn Cooke’s comic-book redesign. I guess?

The Dark Knight Rises, which opens July 20, 2012, also stars Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman.

She causes curious stirrings in my utility belt.

  • Mel

I have to admit the goggles being the cat ears is really creative.

  • Lady’sMan217

Perhaps the cat ears serve as an antenna to catch a signal or something that relays to the visor. Either way, though I was hoping for the masked catwoman, I don’t mind this, and I’m sure it will look great in film.

I think those stilltto heels are considered lethal weapons and banned in several states.

  • Scud

I’m sorry but this looks stupid.

  • Steely Dan

Not what I was expecting. I still love the Catwoman costume from “Batman Returns.”

  • Jaded Devil

This looks like 1/3 the Darwyn Cooke outfit and 2/3 the Julie Newmar outfit.  In no way is this a bad thing.

  • TheCommander

But will they do the nasty on a rooftop in the costumes? That is the question the mouth-breathers everywhere want answered.

  • Randy Watson

I agree. What’s wrong with the Darwyn Cooke goggles again?

  • Anonymous

    it looks ok.

  • Christopher Kaufman

Are they getting ready to film the scene from Catwoman #1?  She’s so hot, even Gary Oldham can’t keep from sneaking a peak.

  • Anonymous

Wow, apparently Anne Hathaway only ever walks with her eyes closed and I never noticed.

  • Tomfitz1

Let’s hope that Batman has bat-protection for safe sex!  ;-)

I was hoping the “cat” element of the costume would be a little more subtle–maybe retractable claws in the gloves, which would give the practical element of a hidden weapon and burglary tool without the inherent silliness of dressing like an animal.  The high heels have no practical purpose other than to look silly–I can’t imagine her running or being stealthy in those.

Oh well.  At least she doesn’t have a tail.

  • kalorama

The “cat ears” being raised goggles is actually a pretty clever solution, but the mask looks rather silly; they should have gone with the leather helmet. Those heels look great, but are absolutely ludicrous being worn by a supposed cat burglar.

  • demoncat_4

she looks like Julia newmar did in the tv show in that catwoman suite.

  • Catsmeow

I like it. She actually looks like CATwoman now!

  • Catsmeow

They’re hideous and ugly. Cooke’s Catsuit is the *worst* design in Selina’s history.

  • Catsmeow

He’s the goddamn Batman. He doesn’t need condoms.

  • Kyle

I hope to god this is her in a prototype phase. It wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t look so cheap, all the budget must have gone in bales outfit. She looks like his sidekick. She needs a cowl either the current look or even the balent era look. I’m waiting for something official to be released before I get put off entirely, but these pics aren’t helping

  • Kevin Melrose

Worse than the original furry purple cat’s head, or the green bodysuit, or the go-go ensemble from the late ’60s/early ’70s?

  • Tomfitz1

Oh, right.  Like we call need another demonic spawn named Damien!

  • Scud

     Say it with me D A M I A N, its not that hard.

  • Tomfitz1

Ok.  I’m a bad speller.  sue me.  ;-)

  • JimMacQ

They don’t usually test prototypes on a full set with cast and crew. This is what will be in the film.

  • Catsmeow

No, but it would be nice for Selina and Bruce to have their own little Huntress in the post-Flashpoint DCnU.

  • Pagurcia

    In Nolan we trust

I’m curious as to why there is so much media being given away about this movie. There was never this much behind the scenes footage for the other batman flicks, and it’s working…I want to see this…now!
