Oldman, Bonham-Carter Reportedly Offered Roles in Live-Action Akira
Well that was quick. Just a few days after it was announced that Warner Bros. has finally greenlit its live-action version of the Japanese cyberpunk manga-turned-anime Akira, Twitch has spread word about some casting news.
According to the site, Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham-Carter got offered roles, though, whether they’ve accepted them has yet to be seen. Oldman has been offered the role of The Colonel, a solider in charge of researching people with psychic abilities including, Tetsuo and Akira. Bonham-Carter’s potential role is that of Lady Miyako, a high priestess of Neo Tokyo.
A soldier and a high priestess? Yeah, those roles fit pretty firmly in Oldman and Bonham-Carter’s wheelehouses. While this whole production, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (House of Wax, Unknown) and potentially starring Tron: Legacy‘s Garrett Hedlund as Kaneda, has raised a lot of question marks from fans, casting like this will most likely ease some fears.
