Bond 23 Officially Called Skyfall, Bardem and Fiennes Confirmed

Production gets under way Monday on the 23rd James Bond film, now officially called Skyfall.

The announcement was made today at a London press conference by producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who confirmed that stars Daniel Craig and Judi Dench will be joined in the Sam Mendes-directed movie by Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes, as well as Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.

In Skyfall, written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan, “Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”

The film is set to open in the U.K. and Ireland on Oct. 26, 2012, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Dr. No, which launched the Bond franchise. Skyfall will open Nov. 9, 2012, in North America.

For those keeping track at home, this is Dench’s seventh Bond film and Craig’s third, and the second time the actor’s worked with Mendes (the first was in the 2002 crime drama Road to Perdition).

“We’re so delighted to have Sam Mendes direct Skyfall and be working once again with Daniel Craig,” Wilson and Broccoli said in a joint statement. “We’ve a great script, an extraordinary cast and an incredibly talented creative team for this latest James Bond adventure.”

Skyfall will be distributed by Sony Pictures, which signed on in April as co-financier, rescuing a movie that had been delayed by MGM’s well-publicized financial woes. By the time Skyfall opens in October 2012, it will have been four years since the release of Quantum of Solace.

Skyfall doesn’t exactly leap out at you as being a Bond title, or it is just me the cast sounds really good and that script excerpt sounds like it could be good. Plus Daniel Craig & Judi Dench being back is great & Sam Mendes is a good director, its just the name thats not good enough for a bond movie, After Moonraker The Man with The Golden Gun Lcence to Kill Quantum of Solace ect.. it just seems a little flat.

Well this is a pretty awesome supporting cast! Bardem, Finney, Whishaw, Fiennes.  I hope they all get some decent screen time.  I’m gathering Fiennes and Bardem will be the villains?  Sounds good to me.

More like Casino Royale, less like Quantum of Solace.

Wasn’t it supposed to be based off the new Bond book called “Carte Blanche”by Jeffery Deaver?

I’d like to know why they made the last two Bond films darker and grittier. I don’t so much mind that, but, a little humor as what was featured in the original earlier films through to Roger Moore would be nice again. And although “Q” (Desmond Llewlyn) is dead; he did have a successor, so get that part of the filming back into the series.
