Snow White Screenwriter Takes Aim at Universal’s Asteroids

Snow White and the Huntsman screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos will take a pass at the script for Universal Pictures’ Asteroids, Heat Vision reports. Created in 1979, the classic arcade and Atari game followed the exploits of a triangular spaceship trying to destroy an ever-growing onslaught of asteroids and UFOs.

A surprising bidding war sprung up over rights to the adaptation, which Universal won two years ago. Matt Lopez, who has screenplay credit on movies like The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and the Race to Witch Mountain remake, has already written a version that involved a pair of brothers rekindling their relationship while fighting an alien invasion.

Spiliotopoulos has worked on a lot of straight-to-DVD Disney sequels like The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning as well as the animated feature Battle for Terra.

With such a loosely defined subject matter, it will be interesting to see what the Asteroids movie turns into.

The Asteroids thing sounds rather intriguing. Who knows? It could mean the start of a whole new franchise. For those who are fans of space opera like myself, this could be something exciting.

    I’m just saying . . .
